If the names Binky Felstead or Rupert Campbell-Black mean anything to you, you will have a clue as to two of mine! For those of you less au fait with <em>Made in Chelsea<\/em> and\/or the toe-curlingly cringy novels of Jilly Cooper about the machinations of the horseracing and polo-playing elite, perhaps the promise of an exclusive, jockey-inspired workout at the boutique <a href=\"https:\/\/un1t.com\/\">UN1T<\/a> gym in London Bridge, which included the chance to \u2018ride the Grand National course\u2019 on a mechanical horse, will help to explain why I jumped on the chance to attend the inaugural session of Great British Racing\u2019s new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greatbritishracing.com\/latest\/jockey-fit\/#!#bGoBsG0DJ9eaAxXL.97\">Jockey Fit<\/a> programme this week. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"4617\" height=\"3072\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Station-1.jpg?fit=1024%2C681\" alt=\"Jockey Fit workout: Sit-us with medicine balls and superman holds at one of the workout stations\" class=\"wp-image-9447\" srcset=\"https:\/\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Station-1.jpg 4617w, https:\/\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Station-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Station-1-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Station-1-1024x681.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 4617px) 100vw, 4617px\" \/><figcaption>Sit-us with medicine balls and superman holds at one of the workout stations<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Getting Grand National ready<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Launched to coincide with the weekend of the Grand National (Saturday, 6 April), Jockey Fit is a fun but intensive workout, designed to showcase the elite levels of fitness required by jockeys. As Penny Maltby-Payne, PR Manager at Great British Racing noted \u2018it\u2019s a gruelling class that will help us promote the sheer level of athleticism of modern-day jockeys, a level of athleticism very often underestimated.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Comprising a high intensity circuit routine that\ntargets four of the key physical facets relied upon in horse racing \u2013 quads,\ncardio, balance and core strength \u2013 Jockey Fit was created by GBR in\npartnership with Cheltenham Festival winner Lizzie Kelly and UN1T personal\ntrainer Gary Williams. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"5189\" height=\"3139\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Pigeon-pose.jpg?fit=1024%2C619\" alt=\"Stretching after a gruelling workout \" class=\"wp-image-9448\" srcset=\"https:\/\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Pigeon-pose.jpg 5189w, https:\/\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Pigeon-pose-300x181.jpg 300w, https:\/\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Pigeon-pose-768x465.jpg 768w, https:\/\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Pigeon-pose-1024x619.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 5189px) 100vw, 5189px\" \/><figcaption>Stretches at the end<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The workout<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The workout involved five gruelling stations, each of two exercises. Included were box jumps, TRX pistol squats, bear crawls and kettlebell swings. And of course the aforementioned mechanical horse, called an equiciser, thrown in at the end! We performed each exercise for 40 seconds, with 20 seconds rest in between sets, and did 3 reps of each. While I like to think I\u2019m in reasonable, I admit to being totally exhausted by the end. Swinging a 15 kg kettlebell and doing my first ever box jumps left my limbs a little bit shaky! Following the workout Chessie observed, \u2018I&#8217;ve done a lot of HIIT variations but this one is something else! Having seen her put through the Jockey Fit paces while barely breaking a sweat, there is no doubt that this is a mum of is on top of her fitness game! I asked her if she still did much horse riding, but she said that unfortunately there weren\u2019t many opportunities in London. When back in Sussex she did try to ride a little claiming to be a &#8216;country girl at heart\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I spoke to her about how the Jockey Fit workout compared to her normal exercise regime, which she said is a similarly efficient 45 minute to an hour HIIT session. She normally trains with a PT and uses the Fiit app (a company for which she is also an ambassador), which enables her to workout at home. She exercises each morning, which perpetuates a virtuous circle of feeling good and making healthy eating choices. I did query how she was able to fit this in around her daughter, India, and she conceded that while it was easier on the two days when India is at nursery, she also uses the <a aria-label=\"Bubble babysitting app (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/joinbubble.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bubble babysitting app<\/a> to help on the other days (this app is a wonder and if you haven\u2019t yet discovered it, it\u2019s worth checking out!).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Post-baby fitness <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>I also asked her about getting back into exercise post-baby. She advised starting slowly and seeing a women\u2019s health physio before hitting the high-impact cardio. When I raised the question of how having a baby had changed her relationship with her body she said that she felt more comfortable and relaxed in her skin. She is amazed at what her body has done in growing and birthing a child. She is also less hung-up on her \u2018wobbly bits\u2019 (of which there were none!) than she had been before.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1512\" height=\"2016\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/IMG_0598.jpg?fit=768%2C1024\" alt=\"Binky Felstead, Jockey Fit ambassador \" class=\"wp-image-9446\" srcset=\"https:\/\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/IMG_0598.jpg 1512w, https:\/\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/IMG_0598-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/IMG_0598-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1512px) 100vw, 1512px\" \/><figcaption>Binky<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Mummy Tribe<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Talking of her role as a mum, I was also interested to hear more about her business, <a aria-label=\"The Mummy Tribe (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.themummytribe.co.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Mummy Tribe<\/a>. The Tribe runs three-day retreats for mums and babies in East Sussex. She emphasised how these retreats go beyond just a spa experience, including talks and workshops on weaning, mental health and general wellbeing. She noted that how, after the birth of her daughter, she underwent a certain loss of identity. This is something she has also identified in other mothers, and so she was keen to find a way to bring back a greater sense of self in mums. \u2018It\u2019s amazing how just having your nails done, getting a blow dry and a spray tan can completely change the way you feel about yourself\u2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I was interested to hear how involved she had been\nin the ins and outs of the retreats \u2013 the general look and feel, organising the\nworkshops, programming the workouts, selecting the menus etc. \u2013 and she\ninsisted that she as heavily involved in all elements and attended all of the\nretreats, sourcing speakers from word-of-mouth recommendations as well as from\nInstagram. She also flagged that a new, one-day retreat at a venue closer to\nLondon was on the horizon \u2013 I will certainly be keeping an eye out for this!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A working mum<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>If The Mummy Tribe wasn\u2019t enough to keep her busy, she is also launching a jewellery range, which will be promoted under her given name, <a aria-label=\"Alexandra Felstead (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/philippaherbert.co.uk\/product-category\/jewellery\/alexandra-felstead\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Alexandra Felstead<\/a>. I asked if this was a shift away from the \u2018Binky\u2019 brand to something new. She shrugged this off, insisting that she would always be Binky, and that while the jewellery was something a bit more \u2018grown-up\u2019 it only represents part of who she is. When I suggested that she might be regarded as a business woman or an entrepreneur she actually laughed!  \u2018I\u2019m a woman in business I guess\u2019 she conceded. \u2018I\u2019m a working mum, but I couldn\u2019t call myself a business woman without sniggering\u2019. Still, she is a working mum with lots of irons in the fire and one I\u2019ll certainly be keeping an eye on for future initiatives. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Eat\/Sweat\/Breath<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>I finished our chat with an Eat\/Sweat\/Breath quick fire round:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Favourite place to EAT in London: <\/strong>\u2018Monty\u2019s on the Fulham Road \u2013 they do a delicious curry.
