However, with most people having trained for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.virginmoneylondonmarathon.com\/en-gb\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">London marathon<\/a> in London&#8217;s normally cold and drizzly weather, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.merrell.com\/UK\/en_GB\/home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Merrell<\/a> ambassador, offers Healthy Living London readers his top tips for running in the heat. Woah!<\/h5>\n<div id=\"attachment_7840\" style=\"width: 560px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7840\" class=\"wp-image-7840\" src=\"https:\/\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/IMG_0210-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/IMG_0210-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/IMG_0210.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-7840\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dr. Andrew Murray knows about running in heat!<\/p><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Dr. Andrew Murray&#8217;s Top Tips For Running In the Heat<\/h3>\n<div><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Acclimatise to the heat if you can.\u00a0 In the days leading up to the race try and be outside in the heat of the day and spend some time in a hot bath, if you are not used to running in hot conditions.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Be hydrated prior to starting (aiming for clear or straw coloured urine) and drink cold fluid at aid stations if you are thirsty.\u00a0 Fluids that have electrolytes and carbohydrates are ideal.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0If hot conditions are expected, don&#8217;t overdress. I wear light coloured (white) loose-fitting clothing (from Merrell).\u00a0 I will also wear sunscreen and a buff around my wrist to wipe excess sweat away.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0If the conditions are hot then you are likely to be a little slower.\u00a0 If it&#8217;s super hot, don&#8217;t think about personal bests, but embrace the challenge of completing a marathon on a hot day. Running in a pack may stop some direct sunlight. I also try and run on the shady side of the road if there is one!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h4>About Dr. Andrew Murray<\/h4>\n<div>As an athlete, Andrew has won races in some of the hottest places on earth including the Sahara Desert and the Gobi Desert.\u00a0 He also became the first to run across the Namib desert (featuring the highest sand dunes worldwide) in the Namibian summer.
