If you have then chances are, you\u2019ve come across Twisted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Described as \u2018the Instagram duo on a mission to make comfort food cool\u2019, Tom and Harry, the founders of Twisted, have done exactly that. Their cookbook is packed full of recipes that will make your tastebuds and soul sing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s based around special occasions and has chapters including \u2018Picnic\u2019, \u2018Christmas Party\u2019, \u2018Meat-free Monday\u2019 and even focuses on some single ingredients like the \u2018Pasta\u2019 and \u2018Potatoes\u2019 chapters. For a start, the photography is stunning which made my mouth water before I\u2019d even started looking at the recipes, very promising.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once I started to delve into the recipes I turned down about half of the pages to remind myself which ones I wanted to make (does anyone else do this?) and then went through again to figure out which ones would be family-friendly too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are the recipes I ended up making:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rapid Black Daal<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>This tastes almost exactly like the famous Dishoom black daal but is ready in a fraction of the time by using tinned beans rather than dried. The spice balance was absolutely delicious and the kids LOVED it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/twisted-1-1-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Twisted Rapid Black Daal\" class=\"wp-image-12309\" width=\"404\" height=\"303\" srcset=\"https:\/\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/twisted-1-1-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/twisted-1-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/twisted-1-1-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/twisted-1-1.jpg 1380w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 404px) 100vw, 404px\" \/><figcaption><em>Twisted Rapid Black Daal<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lasagne Dauphinoise  <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>So this is a mash-up between a potato dauphinoise and a traditional lasagne where you use flavoursome poached potato slices instead of pasta. The ragu sauce recipe was one of the best I\u2019ve tried but the final dish was a bit of a let down. It was quite a lot of faff and for the same amount of effort I would have preferred a traditional lasagne. The kids didn\u2019t seem to care though and each ate three portions!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/twisted-2-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Twisted Lasagne\" class=\"wp-image-12311\" width=\"401\" height=\"301\" srcset=\"https:\/\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/twisted-2-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/twisted-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/twisted-2-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/twisted-2.jpg 1380w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 401px) 100vw, 401px\" \/><figcaption><em>Twisted Lasagne<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Welsh Rarebit Mac \u2018n\u2019 Cheese<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>You can\u2019t go too far wrong with the beer\/mustard\/cheese flavours of a Welsh Rarebit and when you add pasta to the mix then it\u2019s a guaranteed winner. It takes a bit of effort to put together as each element needs prep but it\u2019s worth it and it\u2019s always a bit of a show-stopper when you cut into the burrata.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/twisted-4-edited.jpg\" alt=\"Grilled Nectarine and Burrata Panzanella Salad\" class=\"wp-image-12314\" width=\"401\" height=\"534\" srcset=\"https:\/\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/twisted-4-edited.jpg 1035w, https:\/\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/twisted-4-edited-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/twisted-4-edited-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 401px) 100vw, 401px\" \/><figcaption><em>Twisted Grilled Nectarine and Burrata Panzanella Salad<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Banh Mi Sausage Rolls <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>I mean, who doesn\u2019t love a sausage roll?! This version is spiced with lemongrass and ginger which give it a background hint of the Vietnamese baguette that it\u2019s named for but I would have liked a bit more of a punch with the flavour. Next time I\u2019ll double up on the aromatics! I made these with a turkey thigh mince instead of the pork mince that it called for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/twisted-5-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Banh Mi Sausage Rolls\" class=\"wp-image-12315\" width=\"400\" height=\"532\" srcset=\"https:\/\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/twisted-5-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/twisted-5-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/twisted-5-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https:\/\/healthylivinglondon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/twisted-5.jpg 1380w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><figcaption>Tw<em>isted Banh Mi Sausage Rolls<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Final thoughts<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>If you don\u2019t take food too seriously then this is a great cookbook with interesting and innovative flavour combinations. Some recipes are easier than others but most are worth the effort. It\u2019s not particularly veggie-friendly as, even though there is a chapter called \u2018Meat-free Mondays\u2019, there aren\u2019t that many other veggie recipes throughout the book.
